In Canada, psychotherapeutic services provided by a Registered Psychotherapist are generally exempt from HST. This tax exemption applies because these services are considered healthcare-related, falling under the category of basic health care services as outlined by the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA). To qualify for the exemption, the services must be delivered within the scope of practice defined by the governing regulatory body and aimed at improving mental health or addressing emotional, psychological, or behavioural concerns. However, other services, such as workshops, consulting, or educational programs, may not be exempt and could be subject to HST.
